Practical Fatigue Theory with nCode
Learn the role of fatigue in product life through practical concepts.
Practical Fatigue Theory with nCode is a technical course providing an introduction to fatigue analysis methods enabled with nCode software. You'll learn about the physics of fatigue as a failure mode and use hands-on exercises in nCode to learn fatigue analysis methods such as stress-life, strain-life, and crack growth.
Online courses are delivered in real-time with a live instructor.
Learning objectives
- Explore common fatigue analysis methods applicable to test and CAE-based fatigue calculations such as stress-life (SN), strain-life (EN) and crack growth.
- Define basic procedures and assumptions.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of practical applicability and concepts.
- Understand how to perform fatigue calculations with nCode fatigue analysis software.
Topics included
- Introduction to fatigue as a failure mode
- The physics of fatigue
- Overview of fatigue analysis methods
- Stress-Life approach (SN)
- Strain-Life approach (EN)
- Multiaxial fatigue
- Fracture mechanics and crack growth
- Fatigue of welds
- Application of fatigue analysis
- Advanced topics
Course length
Online: 4, 3-hour sessions
Onsite: 2 days
Target group
Practical Fatigue Theory with nCode is aimed at engineers involved in structural durability, including fatigue life estimation, improvement, or validation testing. Engineering analysts will learn more about the durability-related tasks they are responsible for. Other engineers and managers will learn key points about the durability concepts and analyses they interact with. It is assumed that attendees are familiar with material behavior and general structural mechanics, typical of most practicing engineers.
Requirements
This course requires the use of a computer with a licensed nCode software installation. All registrants will receive a temporary nCode software license. Online courses also require an audio device with a microphone or a telephone. Dual monitors are recommended. The instructor will make use of a webcam. Webcams for attendees are optional but encouraged.
Prerequisite: None
Recommended: nCode GlyphWorks: Signal Processing and Test Data Analysis, nCode DesignLife: Fatigue analysis using FEA Results, or equivalent experience using nCode software
